This winter term, the Norris Ely Orchard Theatre presented a spooky, creepy, yet hilarious and lively show – The Addams Family. Starting with an open dress rehearsal on Tuesday, March 18, the show runs until Saturday. All actors, technicians, and professional crew members worked on this production since December. Every week actors spend more than fifteen hours in the NEO, and as the show week came around the corner, the amount of effort, work, and time they put into the creation of the musical doubled.

Some actors shared their thoughts on the production of the musical since they worked really hard to present this interesting story on the stage. Aidan Cooper ’22, who plays Mal, said, “I always love the energy of performing. The stage comes alive when there are people there, sitting in those seats, reacting to what we’ve worked really hard to create. It feels like we as a cast and family can make a difference and spread a little bit of joy.”

Playing Morticia, Lana Breheney ’21 shared her love for her character; she said, “Morticia has been a dream role of mine since I was really little, so I am so so so excited to perform! The rush of performance is the best feeling, so I cannot wait to experience that again.”

The stage managers are also excited about the performances. Isa Spina ’22 shared, “Backstage, the only thing I can’t control is my will to sing all the songs! I feel that the voices and the talents of our cast are amazing, and this show is just a sample of all of this!” She describes the show process as, “ a lot of hard work from the actors and the tech crew to produce this musical, and I think you will enjoy it very much! See you all there!!”

The other stage manager, Jasper Gitlitz ’22 said, “I can’t wait to see it all come together and I am excited to see people’s reactions to the show.  It is going to be an amazing performance! It will make you laugh and cry and be happy and sad all at the same time! So many people have put in so much work and it has definitely been worth it because the show looks fantastic!”

Other members of the cast strongly encouraged the Loomis Chaffee community to come to watch the musical: Grace Thompson, the actress who is playing Pugsley, states, “[The show] is awesome! We’ve got fog, and swords, and skulls, and ancestors, and crossbows, and dancing, and drama! We’ve got it all!!” All jokes aside, Grace truly believes that “people should come because it’s just a really good time. Like if people want to relax and laugh and just see the talent that Loomis really has to offer, then they should come to see this show.”

Aidan Cooper also adds, “The Addams Family is hilarious, quirky, dramatic, intense, and exciting all at the same time. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on everything, and I can say with no hesitation that this will be one hell of a show.”
