The Puzzle: A tricky game (proposed by Joseph Lee ’16)
This game involves two players that take turns. We draw a box as shown below.
Player One starts on the top right corner, and Player Two starts on the bottom left. On each player’s turn, the player may only move to another box that shares a common edge. The only restriction is that tiles that have been previously visited by any player cannot be visited. A player loses when they cannot move anywhere. Is it preferable to be player one or player two?
Now, let’s add a new rule where you can visit tiles that share the same vertex. (Basically, you can move diagonally). Is it preferable to be Player One or Player Two?
Bonus: Have any ideas for a board?
